SEAFARING AUXILIARY SERVICES
SHIPS INFORMATION SERVICE
At the end of Giano wharf,overing the small dock of pilot boats,there is a white
and red tower inside of which there are skilled operators carrying out the look out
service.This one represent an helpful reference for all port operators regarding
Ship's ETA,Position inside the harbour,Ship's ETD and everything regarding the
port activity.Various Radio rigs and a full computerized Meteo central,plus a
net line connected with other italian stations are the outfittings of S.I.S.
The service is done by VHF Marine Band radioes on Channels 16,12,10, continuosly

PILOTS
Pilot service is compulsory for all ships over 500 GRT.For Few ships up to 2000 GRT
is possible to enjoy advantage of VHF Pilot service.Pilot corp is given by 21
effective Pilots and 1 Master Pilot.The headquarter is closely to the docks recovering
their fast Pilot boats;detachments are available at Voltri Port and Multedo Oil
terminal too.The service is granted also by means of:Nos.5 Fast Pilot Boats,
A.R.P.A. Radar system,VHF Marine Band Radio Rigs working on channels 10-12-16.
Within the summer of 1996 the Pilot corp will receive a new headquarter with new
buildings and a tall tower inside of which will be received:Pilots,S.I.S.,and
the Coast Guard with the P.A.C. (Port Approach Control).
This service was called on the beginning Mooring Men only and it was founded on
1473.So far on 1934 they were changed into MooringMen Group then,on 1991,it
was transformed into Cooperatine society.
The headquarter is at Ponte Doria wharf with detachments at Ponte Etiopia wharf,
Multedo Oil Terminal.The Group is made up with 64 members and following equipments:
- Nos.2 Lorries with winches.
- Nos.7 Cars
- Nos.1 OffRoad Car
- No.1 Self Propelled crane.
- Nos.11 Motor Boats,2 of which offshore type.
The Group is member of A.N.G.O.P.I. (Italian Association) and E.B.A. (European
BoatMen Association).
Towing service is assured by the Rimorchiatori Riuniti Society with headquarter
at Ponte Parodi (Head Wharf).The fleet is given by the following tugs:
